To instill eye drops for glaucoma, gently pull down on the lower lid, on the side closest to the eye. That way, if the tip does inadvertently touch the eye itself, it will not touch the cornea. Look up at the ceiling and look at a spot. Then bring the bottle tip in line with the spot, and squeeze out a small drop.
Eye drops often spill over from the tear film. This is OK. If this happens, use a moist tissue to wipe away any residue from the skin. This may reduce the risk of local side effects, such as skin irritation or pigmentary changes with certain types of drops.
